Entangled - Emotion Series Number 8

1,750.00

This piece is different than I've presented you with before. It's experimental, but I REALLY liked making this (and the other two that are headed to Hudson Hughes Gallery "Little things that may have strings" show opening online on 11/18), so I hope you don't mind if I make more at some point. This one is my first offering to you that's intended solely for the wall - the procurement of the antique convex glass frame was part of the fun.

To be entangled is to be immersed in something - whether it be a love affair or something else that captures your attention. I use skeletons or skeletal aspects in my emotion series because it's in our skeletons that we are the same (more or less). These could be anyone of us. So, my skeleton here is hung up and tied up in affairs of the heart. The heart has strung him up like a marionette's strings. I've felt like this - falling and falling, ruled by my heart. I'm a lot like this with work as well - it's not only a romantic implication. Anyway - I hope you like it.

The skeleton is constructed entirely out of layered fine silver. I used fine silver because fine silver is less likely to tarnish, but I think it will be interesting to see the evolution of it's color over time. The red is fine silk thread - sewn in a relatively traditional embroidery technique on beautiful black linen. It is all secured within an antique (the lady I got these frames from said they were made in the 1940's or 1950's) plaster frame with a high dome convex glass. The frame is in excellent original condition - no chips at all in the plaster or the gold paint. The glass is also original containing a few bubbles and scratches - typical of older glass. I have backed the piece with new materials, but have left the original hook for hanging at the top of the frame. The glass creates some interesting distortions when looking at the skeleton from different angles - it helps give the illusion of greater depth than it actually has. Total dimensions: 12.25" tall by 10.5" wide.
